Work on Students' Bonsai* (Summer Care)Students will bring 2-3 of their own trees and tools. We will focus on wiring, pruning, styling, proper care, repotting depending on the season, solutions to insect and plant disease. Time will be spent discussing the students' trees, making decisions about the future of each Bonsai and taking decisive action to advance its design.

Root Over Rock Maple (Class 1)
We will use trees that have been especially trained for this purpose. They have long roots with a lot of trunk movement and are 10-12 years old. $125

Root Over Rock Maple (Class 2)
For students who have completed Class 1 the previous year/s; they are to bring their trees. This is the next step in the process. We will expose the roots and repot into the appropriate Bonsai pot. These compositions were begun one to three years ago. $75
January 9, 2010 (Saturday)
Trident Maple Forest
7 to 15 trees (5-8 years old) will be placed into a shallow tray to create the perception of depth and serenity in a forest glade. In-depth discussion of how forests grow and the secrets of making the forest planting dramatic, believable and aesthetically pleasing. Beautiful fall color; small leaves. $135

We will use 8-yr old Acer rufinerve, the trunks already fusing -- to create a one trunk tree. This is a spectacular style for a dramatic tree. $125
